Alessandro Berni Gallery presents Suspended She: Inner Tensions, a solo exhibition by Ribana Szutor, on view from May 21 through May 31, 2026, at 511 West 25th Street in New York.

In Suspended She: Inner Tensions, Ribana Szutor constructs an image that does not allow for immediate passage, but instead demands a suspension. Not only of the gaze, but of judgment.

A female presence appears only intermittently, emerging from an undefined space, then dissolving back into abstraction. The figure is not the subject. Tension is. A contained force that moves between body and surface, sometimes visible, sometimes fully absorbed into the painting.

Szutor’s surfaces unfold through subtle, layered textures that resemble fragments of an inner cartography. These are not landscapes to be recognized, but territories to be felt. Torn, reassembled, shared. A geography without borders, where emotion becomes structure.

The painting does not describe a place. It behaves like a state.

The surface articulates itself through fine stratifications, evoking the topography of a shared and fractured inner map. This abstract landscape does not depict a location, but a condition: an emotional geography, as if the viewer were observing from above an inner territory in constant transformation.

Color, in Szutor’s practice, is a living, luminous material that builds depth and rhythm. Tonal variations and surface vibrations generate a continuous movement where form never fully settles.

The exhibition is conceived as an environment of suspended intensity.

Suspended She is not a figure to be decoded. It is a condition to be crossed.
